Prof.
Mohamed Fakhr El-Islam
Trained in Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry in London
and trained in psychotherapy at the Tavistock Institute of Human
Relations in London. He is a fellow of the Royal College of
Physicians of Edinburgh and a fellow of the Royal College of
Psychiatrists in London.
He
began his academic career in the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo
University and was Professor of Psychiatry at Kuwait University.
He started psychiatric services for the state of Qatar in
1971 and the University psychiatric department in Kuwait in
1980.
His
main areas of research are Arab cultural and Epidemiological
Psychiatry. His most recent publications include contributions
to reference books in these areas published by the American
Psychiatric Press, the International Universities Press and
the World Psychiatric Association.
He
was the associate editor of the International Journal of Social
Psychiatry and Secretary of the Trans-cultural Psychiatry
Section of the World Psychiatric Association. At present he
is academic consultant to The Behman Hospital.
